Frequently Asked Questions
IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) Photo Rejuvenation is an exciting non-invasive procedure designed to give you healthier more youthful looking skin by improving skin tone and texture. Intense pulses of light deeply penetrate your skin, treating the effects of sun damage while encouraging collagen production, leaving the skin smoother and more even toned.
IPL Photo rejuvenation is most commonly used lightening and removing sun spots, age spots, and brown blotches on the face, neck, chest, hands and other areas of the body. Photo rejuvenation is also used for lightening and reducing redness, rosacea, dilated blood vessels and broken blood vessels on the face, neck and chest.
IPL Photo rejuvenation consists of 1-6 treatments, usually one every three to four weeks. The laser device emitting a range of light waves are then tuned and targeted at haemoglobin or melanin. The light beam passes through the skin and is absorbed by either haemoglobin or melanin resulting in damage to the vessel wall or fragmenting of melanin pigment. These tiny vessels and the melanin pigment are then absorbed by the body, rendering them less visible.
IPL Photo Rejuvenation treatments are customised according to the needs of the patient. Results will vary from patient to patient depending on their skin type and skin problem.
We offer a FREE consultation and test patch if you’re unsure about the treatment.
Patients will often describe the treatment to the sensation of a light ‘snap’ from a rubber band. The hand-piece also has a chill tip designed to slightly cool and numb the surface area.
While you may experience some flushing or redness and mild heat after the treatment, this fades within several hours and can last just a few minutes.
Some swelling can also be expected momentarily if your skin is relatively loose. Brown age spots and uneven skin pigmentation may also darken slightly temporarily after treatment then will start to fade soon after.
You will generally notice visible changes to your skin within a few hours of your first treatment. To achieve optimal results for most skin concerns, we recommend scheduling 4-6 sessions.
However, no two people have the same skin. And no two people respond to IPL in the same way.
That’s why we’ll design a treatment program that’s tailored to you and your skin.
