What to expect from your first in-salon skincare treatments

Firstly, congratulations on looking after your skin so well! Secondly, we’re so glad that you chose to embark on your new skincare journey with us at Adelaide Laser Skincare. We just love helping our clients achieve glowing, healthy skin!

We know that taking the next step in skincare can be confusing and even daunting, as there are so many salons and treatments available. So, in order to demonstrate just how easy, fun and rewarding it is to jump into the world of in-salon skincare, our newest client, Sharm, documented her very first appointment with us.

1. Arrival at Adelaide Laser Skincare

Adelaide Laser Skincare co-owner, Justyna, greets me with a big, beautiful smile when I arrived at the bright, sun-lit Tusmore salon. She offers me complimentary tea or water, which is so appreciated. I’m just on time, but I recommend you come five to ten minutes early. If this is one of your first treatments at Adelaide Laser Skincare, you’ll need to fill out a form detailing your skin type and medical history. Also, be sure to come makeup-up free.

2. Initial in-depth consult 

We spend a decent amount of time in the consultation room talking all about my skin type, skincare routine, and any issues I’d like to address.

I’m 26 and my skin is reasonably healthy and well looked after, as I’m already quite into skincare… my routine is involved to say the least. I’ve always wanted to chat to a professional about my skin, so finally having the opportunity to speak with Justyna is really fun for me. She wants to know every step in my AM and PM routines, what the products are, and the ingredients they consist of – we even Googled some together when my memory fails. Justyna explains where the holes in my routine are (Vitamins A and C), and we speak on the kinds of products I could be using to really propel my skin’s health. So much learning!

The next step in our consultation is what I’ve been looking forward to the most: Canfield’s Reveal Imager. This bad boy takes close-up pictures of your skin, revealing surface and subsurface pigmentation and vascular conditions. These photos, along with its customised report, allows professionals to design a skincare program specifically addressing each individual’s skincare needs.

For me, I have sensitive skin that errs on the dry side, plus an annoying case of hormone-related adult acne. The Reveal Imager shows that while my skin is overall pretty healthy and well-hydrated, I have many sunspots hiding under the surface of my skin, a broken capillary and some pesky acne scarring.

Because my skin reasonably young and well looked after, Justyna chooses to start me with some skincare treatments that gently addresses my broken capillary, healing acne spots, hidden damage from the Adelaide sun, and the areas in my at-home routine that are lacking.

3. Serum & treatment time!

We move into a treatments room where I undress and jump into a cute wrap-around towel.

Justyna uses three different skincare products from Image Skincare’s Vital C range, which are formulated for specifically for environmentally damaged, sensitive and redness-prone skin.

First, Justyna cleanses my naked skin with the Vital C Hydrating Facial Cleanser, which gently removes makeup and impurities while quenching the skin with antioxidants and vitamins A, C, and E.

Next, the Vital C Hydrating Anti-Aging Serum, which smells like a big bowl of ripe oranges, is applied to my face. This serum includes multiple forms of stable vitamin C to brighten and fight fine lines, the visible signs of dullness and ageing to create a healthy, youthful glow.

Finally, I’m left for a few minutes to soak up the Vital C Hydrating Enzyme Mask. With natural enzyme exfoliants like pineapple and papaya fruit extracts, this mask gently dissolves the layer of dead skin build-up, revealing bright, even-toned skin. Even though Justyna warns this one may sting or tingle a little, I don’t feel that sensation on my skin. I suspect my frequent use of AHA’s have toughened me up!

4. LED Light Therapy treatment

Ooooh baby, this is the part that has me all gooey, relaxed, and feeling like a Kardashian.

While I’m reclined on the therapy table with the LED Light over my face, Justyna gives me a lovely head, neck and décolletage massage. The red light first and blue second, I’m able to stop thinking for a moment and just enjoy the experience.

But… what is that light actually doing?

As a result of ageing, skin disorders or trauma, our healthy skin cells are compromised and are unable to renew themselves normally. LED Light Therapy helps with this.

The pain-free, non-invasive treatment covers your face and décolletage with colour wavelengths of visible light. This LED Light activates skin cells with pulses of low level, non-thermal energy. The cell converts light energy into fuel, in turn stimulating the cells to produce proteins and lipids essential for building and repairing the skin.

It’s commonly recommended to those looking to treat acne breakouts, fine lines and wrinkles, post inflammatory scarring and rosacea.

6. Post-treatments with Adelaide Laser Skincare

At the end of my LED Light Therapy, Justyna leaves me to come back to reality and re-dress.

In the salon shop-front, I ask Justyna about some of the products they stock. I take home a handy little post-treatment trial kit by Image Skincare. This pack accelerates and enhances the healing phase post-treatment.

I walk out the shop with the softest, smoothest skin I’ve experienced since perhaps toddler years.

I’ve received so many compliments from family and friends… I do believe the word “radiant” has even been thrown around!

From start to end, I felt completely looked after, as Justyna talked me through every step and every product. I can’t wait for my next skincare treatment at Adelaide Laser Skincare next month, which will be a HydraFacial – stay tuned!
