Laser Hair Removal is one of the most frequently practised treatments with both men and women that want to permanently reduce the appearance of unwanted or excessive facial or body hair.
Laser Hair Removal is a medical procedure that uses a laser which emits wavelengths of light to remove unwanted hair. During laser hair removal, a laser beam passes through the skin to an individual hair follicle and is absorbed by the pigment in the hair (melanin).
The intense heat of the laser damages the hair follicle, which inhibits future hair growth. Laser hair removal is most effective for people who have light skin and dark hair. It typically takes several laser hair removal treatments to achieve a permanent reduction at regular intervals.
Based on research to achieve the desired reduction an average of 8 treatments at regular intervals (approx. every 4 weeks) is recommended. Hair grows in cycles – Anagen (growing phase), Catagen (resting phase), and Telogen (shedding stage). To achieve permanent results the hairs must be in the growing stage for the energy to reach the hair root.
Again we know from research, approx. 15% of anagin hairs are in the growing stage at the time of treatment therefore we can achieve 80% reduction after a course of six treatments.
Depending on the size and area being treated, the duration of the treatment varies for each client. Safety eye-wear is worn to protect the eyes during the procedure from the laser light. Most clients only experience minimal discomfort during treatment. Throughout your treatment you will have cool gel applied to the area being treated.
Clients can return to work or resume their normal activities immediately following treatment. The area may become slightly swollen and red after treatment and may take a few hours or days to settle down again depending on the area treated and skin sensitivity.
